I gave my friend a bottle of dom Perignon for his wedding . . . .?!
to open on his one year anniversary!. He has put it in his fridge for storage for the past eight months!. Is that the correct way to store it or has he ruined the bottle!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Saying the champagne will be ruined is overkill!. While true that a refrigerator is not the ideal storage unit for long term Champagne storage, it will still be okay to drink unless your friend is a serious wine drinker which is unlikely since he stored Dom in the fridge for a year!. The changes that take place in the refrigerator over a year will not be so perceptible to regular wine drinkers to call it ruined!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
According to champagne expert, Ed McCarthy, your gift will be ruined if they leave it in the refrigerator for a whole year!. Mr!. McCarthy recommends leaving a good bottle in the fridge no longer than a week!.
Storing champagne is tricky!. Your friends would do well to look into a professional wine storage facility if they really want to wait for their first anniversary to open the bottle!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

This is what happens, and it happens very slowly: The cork will gradually lose its elasticity and begin to shrink!. The Champagne will gradually lose its effervescence, it will be flat in taste as well!. Odors from foods in the refrigerator will be absorbed by the Champagne!. Although it still might be good my advice is to use it right away!. Do not wait for some big occasion, the big occasion is that you'll be having some Champagne!. If indeed, it has already lost some of its appeal, that would be easier to tolerate if you haven't made a big deal out of it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It's probably ok!. Storing wine in the fridge can cause problems though over extended periods of time!. The vibrations from the fan motors can speed up the aging of the wine!.
Given that it is a high quality Champagne the wine should be fine, as I said, because it is designed to age a little longer than a non-vintage Champagne or lower quality sparkling wine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The refridgerator is a correct way to store it, assuming he doesn't have his own wine cellar!.
