Question: Why do Teens Drink!?
im doing a research paper on why the legal drinking age shall be lowered!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
If you are in the US, your research question is fundamentally flawed!. The drinking age is not being lowered, as your statement implies!. Your paper is therefore on why it should be lowered!. Thus, making you a proponent of lower drinking age!.

As a teen it makes the utmost sense to argue this point!. Who would argue that they shouldn't be allowed to do something which, in their view, is fun!?

Don't get me wrong, I'm 22 and think that the age of 21 is high!. Well, it is the highest drinking age in the world!. Most of Europe is 16-18 and they do not appear to be any stupider!.

Unfortunately, the culture of the US is so twisted compared to Europe!. In Europe, it is fairly common to have wine with your parents at dinner, even at young ages!. Ages, where if we did that in the US you could almost guarantee someone trying to put you in jail!. In the US, we are repeatedly taught to abstain from alcohol!. We are not explained very well why we should, and the consequences of alcohol consumption are blown out of proportion!. (Again, I'm not saying teens don't drink, drive, and die or end up in the ER with alcohol poisoning!. What I'm saying is it is presented to us in a manner which makes it sound like *if* you drink [any quantity] you will become an alcoholic, lose brain cells [which implies lose of intelligence], lose friends, get bad grades, drop out of school, get pregnant, wreck your car, kill your best friend, and stab your dog [or other equally ridiculous event])!.

But, it is this exact same culture which has caused the teen population to, by and large, abuse alcohol!. Nearly every time teens drink they have a strong liquor!. Yeah, theres also beer, but they prefer liquor!. The reason is simple, it's easier to hide and gets you drunk quicker!. Because they view getting drunk quickly as a benefit, they are not mature enough to actually handle alcohol!. Yet, they do anyways!. By and large, this cannot be stopped, and prevention only really changes where, who, and when they drink with!. Instead of stealing from their parents, they may now steal from their friends parents or hang outside a liquor store asking strangers for alcohol, which is also potentially dangerous!.

So, I think everyone has a little bit of a rebellious attitude!. I know that, for my entire life, whenever someone told me to do something I would purposely do the opposite unless they explained why I should do what they want or I already intended on doing whatever they requested!. This can be as simple as "Get a haircut" (Why!? I'm fine with how it is, I'll leave it), "Go to class" (Why!? I'm getting an A and skipping your lectures!.!.!.!. ok, here I ended up going because the professor threatened to take a letter grade away for poor attendance) or "Don't drink" (Why!? I'm 21, if I want to get blackout drunk and puke in my friend's toilet, I will!.!.!. and did)!. I'm willing to bet everyone has this same trait, perhaps in varying degrees!.

With that character trait in mind, you cannot take the approach of bullshitting things such as, "If you drink, you will get pregnant by a neanderthal, have a retarded baby and stab your best friend" that teach you in school!. All the students know you're lying, so you have provided no real reason why they shouldn't drink, besides the fact they are underage!. Honestly, though, how high does that law rate on the police's concern!? DUI rates infinitely higher, for sure!. But, don't you have a higher chance of getting caught speeding than you do of drinking underage, especially at a friend's house in a non-party environment!? What does that imply!? Then, there truly is no real reason not to drink underage, since nobody is providing the teens with actual information!.

The truth is, it is okay to drink under 21 (I mean morally, ethically, and physically, not necessarily legally -- though there are exceptions)!. What needs to be done before the law can be revised to change the drinking age to 18 is a paradigm shift in our schools, society, and parenting!. Rather than teach "Just say no" and the like, we need to introduce teens and even pre-teens why people drink alcohol, what its effects are, and how to stay safe!. The emphasis is on respecting alcohol, understanding how it works, and being in control!. Even with all that, yes, teens will get wasted!. It's just inevitable!. But, if that doesn't become a habit, then we actually win!. I think once you are able to pick up a 6 pack any time you want it doesn't become necessary to finish all the alcohol you can get your hands on for fear of not being able to get drunk again!.

Any of that help!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are literally dozens of reasons, and each person will have a different combination of these reasons to drink!.
Some of them are: Peer pressure, alleviate depression, to party, to unwind, to get high, mimicking adults, experimentation, rebellion from authority, to fit an image, thirst (when nothing else is offered), social lubricant, to show off!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because in Our Society, being able to "Drink" is a pseudo sign of Maturity!.!.!. And since Teenagers are DYING to be seen as "Cool" & "grown up"- they can't WAIT to "hit the bottle" & impress all their friends!. Of Course, when they DO that- & then get behind the Wheel!.!.!.-they end up "Dying" for OTHER reasons!.!.!. And THAT's one of the "reasons" why the drinking age probably WON'T be lowerd- any time soon!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

theyre bored!.!.!.believe me ive gone and asked sometimes and 80% of the time that was it!. It is fun, but it is stupid sometimes!. I understand why they have the drinking age where it is!.!.!.to make sure there are more mature people drinking!. 18 by the way!. Ive seen some pretty tragic and stupid things happen to drunk teens!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Teens drink for the exact same reason adults drink: it is a pleasurable activity that lowers inhibitions and generally contributes to social get-togethers!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Same reason anyone drinks: It tastes good and is fun!. The drinking age should be lowered because the government shouldn't be able to tell me (a 20 year old) what I can put into my body!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because we are told we shouldn't!. And we want to see why we shouldn't!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Coz their stupidWww@FoodAQ@Com
