Do you know any bars or restaurants in your area that have banned smoking, either by law or by policy?!

Question: Do you know any bars or restaurants in your area that have banned smoking, either by law or by policy!?
Have you noticed if those bars or restaurants experienced a significant difference in patronage after the ban was imposed!?

In my town, there is a smoking bar right next door to a non-smoking bar (by policy, instituted well before I started going there)!. Both are about the same size and style, and neither seems to be more crowded than the other!.

I'm trying to get an idea of the economic impact of banning smoking and whether revenue really seems to decline (or increase) as a result!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A number of towns in Mississippi have banned smoking in public buildings!. My town isn't one of them, but the county seat has done it, as well as a number of others!. I don't know of any bar that does this willingly, but I know of one restaurant that has!. I don't think it really changes the revenue, a few people might not come, but others who wouldn't before might start!. In the smaller towns out in the middle of nowhere, which is most towns in Mississippi, you don't really have much choice anyway since it's in the entire town!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes!. I live in Alabama and Jefferson County banned smoking in restaurants about a year ago!. It really did hurt the bar business!. Most drinkers like to smoke and drink!. We would always opt to go somewhere we could do both!. A lot of the restaurants have added patios or completely built a wall between main dining and the bar area to accommodate their guests!. Of course, they have to have separate duct systems!. We used to go to Buffalo Wild Wings late at night as a group and then they banned smoking and we found somewhere else to go!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I remember one bar that made really good pizza went out of business a couple months after Massachusetts initiated the smoking ban!.

I think bars should be allowed to choose what goes on in their own restaurants!. That said, restaurants have been much more pleasant since the ban!. Those walls that go halfway to the ceiling didn't stop smoke from going to the non-smoking section!.

Some local bars in my town that used to be notoriously smokey now have outdoor seating under a canopy, which, if I'm not mistaking, allows smoking, so they sort of found a way around it to keep the smokers happy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's now the law here that smoking is no longer allowed in bars, and clubs except for out door areas and I think they're working to change that as well!.

I haven't noticed any decline in patronage, I personally am a smoker and still goto the same bar I always do, I just have to step outside to have a cigarette, which doesn't really bother me that much!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is compulsory banned here, and the better places say they are getting better patronage!.
Many of the pubs have created spaces outside that just comply withe the lay and are becoming more comfortable!.
In winter, and we have cold nights some have those gas heaters that you would associate with BBQ's
They are also very popular!.

As a whole, I think it is reasonably balanced!.
I am a smoker and when I want to eat I now prefer a smoke free area!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I live in Ontario now!.!. am originally from Louisiana!. THere is absolutely no smoking in any public place!. During the dead of winter people go outside to smoke!. Even the smoker that I am I refuse to go to a restaurant or bar here!. I feel like I should have the option!.!.!. and don't want governments to tell me how to live and what I can and cannot do!.!. so NOO!. I do not go to bars or restaurants here!. Down in Louisiana smoking was outlawed at restaurants but not in the bars!. Bleeding hearts are ruling our nations!. And the taxations they are putting on smokers!.!. the government is collecting all the taxes, yet they want us to quit smoking!. What will become of their tax revenue if we all did!? And no I do not smoke around people that prefer I not smoke!.!. but at least give me the option of having a place to smoke if I want to!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In every restaurant/pub/bar in Maine, smoking is banned!. But I don't think it effects business as people have gotten used to it and just go outside!. That's the great thing about addiction!.!.no matter what the conditions, they'll always do what they have to do to get their fix!.
It's the 15 hour plane rides that are hard to handle!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

all uk enclosed spaces are now smoke free!. it is crtazy!. even a bus stop is smoke free!.!.!. i think some traditional pubs suffer!. however restaurants have a better enviroment now for diners!. on the economic front, i ecently heard a report that suggested that local council/goverment have had to increase the budget for street sweeping!. alos that residential properties adjoining bars and pubs have decreased in value due to the noise levels from smokers who prefer to remian outsideWww@FoodAQ@Com

All the bars in the twin cities are smoking banned, But they allow you to smoke outside on their patios!. And yes there has been a huge change in patronage Ive noticed!. But some are willing to go that far for their fav hangout!. Me I quit smoking 4 yrs ago and Ive noticed a huge change from being allowed to smoke inside!. I can breathe when I lave with out coughing alot, My allergies arnt triggered by all the smoke!. And my clothing doesnt smell to high heaven!. So smoke or dont its your choice!. Just make sure its the right one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would think that it would increase revenues in most venues!.
Non-smoking is fast becoming the rule and law around here!. I however am a smoker, and select a restaurant with smoking as one of my top factors!. I would not go to a bar with no smoking if there was one with smoking nearby!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The only places we've really seen take a hit are some of the local cigar bars!.!.!. They derived a fair amount of business from cigar sales (and the ensuing drinking), and we have noticed a significant drop in patronage since the city-wide ban here in Birmingham, AL!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Austin is completely non-smoking!. I think if there is a patio or courtyard in the bar then people can smoke, but otherwise you can't!. I know a lot of business owners thought that business would really drop, but I don't thin kit did!. All the bars had to comply!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

in the uk and ireland the smoking has been banned in all inclosed public places! it just depends how the business is set up! here bars that dont have decent areas for smoking seem to have lost out! bars are also selling more food now so competing with restaurants more!Www@FoodAQ@Com

They've banned smoking in all indoor establishments that serve food or drink in Ohio (heck, you can't even smoke outside them) and as a result bars in Ohio are closing at the rate of more than one a day!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Smoking indoors anywhere has been banned in Ontario!.

There isn't a decline in patronage because it's province wide!.!.!.you don't really have an alternative!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i live in boston and everywhere is banned from smoking inside all the resturants and barsWww@FoodAQ@Com

In the UK there is no smoking in any public place, and yes it has just about destroyed the pub business, booze shops have increased sales because folk are stopping home and drinking!.
We also have a new 'thingy' now, pubs are allowed to open 24 hours a day, not a lot of good really because we aren't using them any more!! Oh yes the new 'thingy' police recently raided a few local pubs in an effort to find any 'binge' drinkers, any one found drunk in a pub is arrested, ote this is not arrested for being drunk and disorderly, its for being drunk!. This will eventually stop booze being sold in pubs!.
The pubs can then be left clear for kids to romp about the place and scream their lovelyb little heads off, and for parents to drink their fizzy pop in a smoke free atmosphere, and without the smell of booze!.
Now the next bit !, It is already against the law to smoke while driving a vehicle, which is a vehicle that is used by others!. So if you have a company car, you cant smoke in it!.
Welcome to the UK , just dont smoke and dont get drunk in a pub, they are still working on a plan to stop smoking and drinking in your own home! That is not a joke , we have recieved leaflets telling us a doctor is entitled to refuse to attend unless the folk in the house have not smoked for at least 2 hours!!!!
These are not Sci Fi tales, they are true!.
Welcome to the UK, have a good day!Www@FoodAQ@Com
