You can actually do this with a lot of different liquids!. It's all about how you pour it!. After pouring the first liquid, take a spoon and hold it upside down (with the "cup" facing down), and hold it a little above the first liquid!. Then slowly pour the second liquid onto the back of the spoon, and you should get a nice layered effect!. It takes a little practise, but it's very do-able!.
Based on your description, I'd make a guess at grenadine or cranberry juice (the red), with vodka as the floater!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The tecnique is called spoon-floating!. You use a teaspoon to slow down the flow of the second (and third !.!.) liquid, so it stays on top of the layer below!.

Knowing what floats on what, is an exact science!. It depends on the density of the liquids!.

If you don't know the density of the liquids at hand - or have a way of meassuring it - you have to try, try, try!.

I know Galliano liqueur floats on coffee!.
I know you can float baileys on top of kaluah, and cointreaux on top of that!.
And I know that grenadine is one of the heaviest liquid in any bar - it will stay at, or fall to, the bottom of almost any other liquid (pour a tequila-orange juice, and pour in grenadine - it goes to the bottom and makes the signature-look of a tequila sunrise)!.

So the red stuff is probably grenadine!. Did your drink taste fruity!? Because then the clear stuff may have been cointreaux (or tripple sec)!.
If the drink tasted like a mix of red and black liquorice, the clear stuff was probably sambuca!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

B52, In a shot glass, 1/4 Kahlua, 1/2 Baileys Irish cream, And 1/4 Grand Mariner, Pour slowly and the liquors will be layered, Enjoy They taste great!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's called a pousse-cafe!. You have to add the liqueurs gently, going from densest to least dense!. It's more for show than good drinking!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A tequila sunrise has different layersWww@FoodAQ@Com
