Answers:
I buy wines from all over, but I have a real soft spot for American wines!.

Some of my all over favorites are:

2005 Intrigo-Veneto Chardonnay (Italy)--It's crisp, fresh and has an aroma of mango that really sets off sea food!.

2006 L'Autunno-Paso Robles Moscato Canelli (California)--nice fruit flavors, another good one with chocolate!.!.!.lol

My friend brought me back a port from New Mexico's Enchantment Vineyards call le Chocolat, and it's smoothe and warming and has a great chocolate overtone (see a pattern here!?)

Everyone should have a Moscato D'asti onhand for summer or special occasions!.!.it's a sparkling sweet wine, like champagne without the dryness!. There are many on the market and they're not pricey!.

I live in an area in Arizona that's growing new vineyards everyday and I'm a big fan of the local wines!.

I recently found a great dry Riesling from Canelo Hills Vineyard that has a fabulous fragrance almost like honeysuckle and tastes crisp and just a bit tart!.

In general, you should be looking for good, tannic wines that are ageable!. I'd suggest:
2005 Bordeaux
2001 and 2005 California Cabernet Sauvignon
2006 Argentine Malbecs
2004 Italian Reds
2005 German Riesling
2005 Southern Australian Shiraz

Some interesting wines I've encountered on my journey:
Hartford Court 'Fanucci' Zinfandel
Chanticleer Cab Sav
Louis M!. Martini Lot 1
Tikal 'Amorio' Malbec
Xtant (Napa Bordeaux style blend)

In the end, it's all about discovering the wines that you like and want to enjoy for years to come!.

Cheers! And I hope you enjoy your search!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sainte Estephe and Chattaeuneuff de Pape!. Both regions in France!. The Ste Estephe are slow maturing, complex wines!. Best after 7+ years, so if you buy them when first issued, they are relatively cheap!.

The other wine has an unusual, smokey character!. Different, able to hold its own with complex foods!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

franzia! woot woot!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ripple, T-Bird and Mad Dog!. Add some Steel Reserve and you are good to go!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you want to start a new wine collection, the best suggestion is to start with moderately priced wines that can be kept!. You need to be very price conscious, since you will make mistakes and will learn from your mistakes as you go along!. Once your experience is better, both by collecting/trying what you just cellared as well as by reading, you will learn much more about how to keep an adequate collection!. Wine collection and cellaring is an expensive hobby!.

As for the type of wine you like you need to start with a certain types of wine you are interested!. Region is usually how people starts, but people also select a certain grape, a certain wine maker, or other characteristics!. For me, I started out mostly Californian and Bordeaux and remain so, but I have branch out to Italian and Australian!. Still not a huge fan of South American wines!. also, as you start drinking, your taste will change!. I used to hate syrahs, but now I am an avid syrah and petit syrah collector!.

As for the brand, I would not worry so much!. My suggestion for any wine collection is to make it unique!. What other collectors value is the uniqueness of a collection!. Vertical is always good - the same wine from a series of years, which showcase how the wine changes over the years!. Collecting certain winemaker's wine is also very desirable!. Certain vintages are great - like 2000 and 2005 Bordeaux!. Anyone can go out to grocery store, purchase 100 bottles of your everyday wines and call it a wine collection, but to make it so NOBODY have the same thing is what makes it fun!.

Red wines that keeps great are Cabernet, Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Syrah, and some Syrah!. Pinot Noir tends not to age for a long time!. As for white, they usually don't age too well, with exception of French White Bordeaux and Burgundy, which are prohibitively high!. If I were you, I would keep a 90% Red and 10% White!. Dessert wine is also a great way to collect, both white and red (Port)!.

Go online to see what people have!. I have an online catalog of my wine at www!.bottlecount!.com!. See what other people have and what they like!. It is always interesting to see what you can come up with your collection!.

Good luck!.

PS Brands I like: Pride, Revana, Robert Foley, Robert Mondavi, Paloma, Silver Oak, Von Strasser, 1st and 4th French BordeauxWww@FoodAQ@Com
