Answers:
Technically, I think you could get away with calling a cider wine, simply because it's fermented fruit juice!. The federal government separates the two, however, probably for patriotic reasons as cider was made by our founding fathers and has its own history (in England as well), separate from common grape wine!.

Cider (sparkling) can, in its drier states, taste quite like a grape champagne, but will be lower in alcohol as most are between 4 and 7 percent alcohol by volume (based on the sugar content of the apples), while the champagne will be 9-13 percent abv (based on the sugar content of the grapes)!.

Apple wine is usually made from apples or apple juice with the addition of sugar or concentrated apple juice to bring the alcohol content up the the standard for wines (9-13% abv)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wine, per se, is made from grapes!. Country wines can be made from fruits (even apples), vegetables (turnip wine isn't as bad as it sounds), flowers (such as dandelion), tea, coffee, or honey (mead)!. There are probably a few things I've omitted, too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

One of the nicest wines I've had was blackberry, closely followed by raspberry!.

Another take on cider is perry which is made from pears, but for some reason that's not considered a wine (don't know why)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wine can be the fermented juice of any plant fruit!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, wine is made from different fruits!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
