Question: How long does a new and unopened bag of unground coffee beans last!?!?!?
I just bought a few bags of beans from Starbucks!. I hear that once opened, they have 3 weeks!. What about unopened!? Can I just store them!? Do I need to place them in an airtight container once I open the bags!? Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
The second the bag is opened they start to loose flavor!. Once opened move the beans to an airtight container!. I like large flip top jars!.

Unopened!.!.!. You have to remember that a lot of these bags have been sitting in warehouses for months already!. I'd look closely for an expiration date on the package!.!.!. it never lasts long enough in my house to worry about it!. After that I wouldn't keep it around for more than a month or two!.

What ever you do don't freeze it! Freezing kills the flavor faster than anything!.

Alton Brown did an episode of Good Eats on coffee!.!.!. I think it's up on youtube!.!.!.!.

Here it is!.!.!.

Starbucks has expiration dates on there bags!. As for opened, I think 3 weeks is good!.
Mayor West is right about freezing or refrigerating, the temp change of taking it out of cold to warm and back and forth messes with the flavor!. An air tight container in a dark cabinet away from any heat source is the best way to store!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Coffee does not go bad per se!. It does however begin to stale about 5 seconds after the bean has been picked!. A closed bag will stale slower than an opened one but unless you are a big coffee drinker, I recommend only buying one pound at a time!. That way you will always have fresh coffee!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't know but keeping it in the fridge helps alot! Mine always smells fresh when I open it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
