Absinthe drinkers, would you help me please????!
Good morning guys and gals! I am looking for some info!. on buying absinthe for the first time!. First, legal issues!. I have read that I am legally allowed to purchase online and possess absinthe, but I cannot sell it or distill it!. Is this correct!? I want to make sure I do everything legally!. Now about brands and quality!. I want the REAL absinthe experience!. There are so many brands out there, what do you guys recommend!? So far, the Zele Premium seems to be the front runner as far as I can tell with 151 proof with 110 mg of thujone!. also, I hear The King of Spirits is good!. What do you guys think!? I hear that Pernod was the original real absinthe, but that they do not make it with wormwood anymore!. Is this true!? Any other brands that you can recommend!? I want the original most full strength absinthe experience that I can have!. Is the real absinthe blue or clear!? I have seen both claiming to be the real deal!. 1!. Yes it is legal to own it, buy it and drink it!. The law was repealed in early 2007!.
2!. There is no "real" absinthe!.!.!. What people think is real absinthe is a myth!. Chemical testing on vintage bottles has shown that they never contained anymore than 10mg of thujene!.!.!. well below the legal limit!.

From what I know absinthe wont be as good as the pre-banned stuff, some is though!. I've not tried the ones you've mentioned but the thujone looks okay!. I believe in most countries it's legal to buy (not sure on yours) it's illegal to distill spirts in most countries though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you are simply looking for the highest thujone level then you would want: Versinthe La Blanche
An exerpt from the aforementioned website:
"However, in a recent lab test and scientific study it was shown that Versinthe La Blanche, contained the highest level of Thujone among the tested brands, a mere 5!.4 mg/l!."
(Note: Vintage Pernod Fils circa 1900 has 6 mg/l)
The website also rates vintage and modern absinthes, provides historical information on absinthe, and debunks the "thujone" myth!.

I can't answer most of your questions (so why am I writing!?), BUT as an art history major, I do know a little about absinthe since it was featured so prominently in paintings and used widely by artists in Paris!. The only thing I can tell you is that it is not the same 'recipe' as the absinthe of old!. It used to be very much like a hallucinogenic (if not precisely one), but obliviously they cannot legally produce it anymore!.!.!.!.sadly, you will not get the same "experience" as the original absinthe drinkers did!.!.!.!.but good luck and have fun anyway!Www@FoodAQ@Com
