Is this my fault when they KNEW I had no bartending experience?!
I had my second shift or bartending last night!. I was working wih the woman who was supposed to train me!. I went in at 5 and was shown NOTHING!.!.!.!. I knew from my first shift (I worked with someone else) how to make simple drinks: dewars and water, vodka tonic, rum & coke, etc etc!. I knew how to pour beer and wine and how to work the register!. Since the woman wasnt acknowledging me I just dove right in makeing drinks!. I was doing ok!. A few mistakes here and there but the customers were understanding that I was new!. My so called trainer began to give me a huge attitude!. She started snapping at me to do things that no one ever explained to me and telling me I wasnt working hard enough!. I continued making drinks, putting away glasses, stocking ice, emptying ash trays and anything else I could think of!.!.!. well after 2 hours, this woman comes up to me and says "you can go home, I refuse to train you! You dont know how to bar tend!" I feel like such a failure, what should I do!? I want to tendWww@FoodAQ@Com

Your not a failure and sound like a really hard worker, I've done the Industry all my life( well almost) and trained alot of people, and it sounds like your doing well after a couple of shifts- you get from your staff what you put in- shes giving nothing and your showing initiative- try again, but if it doesn't go well move establishments- a good establishment won't mind training and wont mind a few mistakes if the attitude and work ethic is good!. Don't think because you have little experience that you should put up with crap, and that there isn't a better job out there- good luck, its her- not youWww@FoodAQ@Com
Theres plenty of work out there for a bartender!. From the story you told, I dont think you would even want to continue working there with that Bi-yatch anyways!. Just find another place to tend, and dont worry too much about it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It actually sounds like the woman training you was in a bad mood for some other reason and just took it out on you!. It's not fair though, speak to her boss about it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
not your fault, I think this woman just thought that you knew more than you did!. either that or she is completely unreasonable and a total b*tch!. talk to your boss, its all you can do really!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
From how you told it, not your fault!.
Talk to your boss, maybe!? But not in an accusatory manner, more like "I would really like to LEARN how to do ___"Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you think the job is screwed report her to her boss!. Most new bartenders are threw in at the deep end, but someone should be there to advise etc!. lol in your new job!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Pfft!.!.!. What a hag!. Dust yourself off and go back to work!. I can't imagine all of your co-workers are elitist d-bags so I'd go to them for help and just avoid her, perhaps switch shifts!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Go to Manager or owner and explain your situation!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Go to anyone higher then her! No it's not your fault!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Definitely not your fault!. A lot of people have the idea that they "paid their dues" to get to where they are, and they resent anyone who gets a good job with no experience!. Bartending considered the top job in most restaurants!. You make the most money in tips for the least amount of work (not that it's easy)!. This person probably had to work as a server for years before she was "allowed" to work as a bartender and she was pissed off that you were hired with no experience!. I'm also guessing you're attractive, and quite honestly, I've worked at a lot of restaurants where that's all they want behind the bar, because they think that's what the customers want--eye candy!. Again, it could be that she worked her butt off to get where she is, and she thinks you were hired just for your looks, and she's jealous!. It probably pissed her off even more when the customers were being so nice to you!.
The frustrating thing is that apparently the manager/owner of the restaurant doesn't have the stones to stand up to his/her own employees and tell them to train you!. He/she probably hired you because you have a great personality, and thought you'd be great behind the bar once you learned how to make drinks!. If that's the case, you don't want to work for a company like that!. Keep applying for jobs!. Eventually you'll find someone who is willing to hire you without any experience and actually take the time to train you!. If you don't have any experience with serving alcohol, you might even try getting job as a server or cocktail waitress first to get some experience with serving drinks before you start making them!.
Sorry you had such a bad experience, but they're not all like that!. Keep applying, and eventually you'll get what you want!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well you have found a person with a personal problem herself!.she feels threatened by your presence!. i would take this problem over her head and get a second opinion of my job skills!. if in fact you are not trainable then so be it,i feel her decision was merely a judgment call on her behalf and there fore i would seek the second opinion!. as you know drunks are very hard to work with and so you need to be on your toes at all times, she may be highly trained and recognizes a weakness in you that you are not aware of,how ever if she has, she should have brought it to your attention first and then made a decision if you are trainable!. then again she just might be a *****!. ask her advice and listen carefully, she may think you are a know it all and just don't want to deal with your attitude!. we have a story with many facets and only you can iron it out, approach her and ask for a second chance and then listen and ask questions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
