Answers:
Start out as a 'bar back'!. That person gets glasses, ice, extra liquor, etc to help the bartender!. As you work with the bartenders, you'll learn a lot about mixing drinks!.

It doesn't take long to move from bar back to bartender!.

Good luck! -StuartWww@FoodAQ@Com

You need to start off at a local place!. You can make your way up to the top!. You need to start off working behind the bar, not specifically as the bartender, but as the person that helps the bartender!. I think what might motivate you is this: once you get good at being a bartender, you get all the guys in the club loving you!. Have you ever heard the T-Pain song, "Bartender"!? I love that song!. It might motivate you!. Please go listen to it!. also, try to start off locally, like I said!. It would help if you asked some people you know personally who have done this job!. Alright!? I think that might help you!. I hope so!Www@FoodAQ@Com

In many states you have to be 21 to serve alcohol!. Going to bartending school is mostly a waste of money!. Working as a bar back or a busboy in a bar is a great place to start, and you'll learn!.!.!.one night when the bartender doesn't show up,you'll get your shot (pun intended) at it!. You will not start at the top, nor will you likely get a job in a top place without experience!. Look at it from an owner's point of view!. Would you hire someone with no experience to work in your nice classy restaurant as a bartender!? You have to work your way up, as much as it sucks to hear, it's true!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well!.!.this is a great question, because it is kind of a Catch 22, scenario, most establishments will not hire a bartender without any experience (even if you graduated from Bartending School)!.!.!.so how do you get the experience!?

There is a short cut! Put on your resume that you are a FREELANCE BARTENDER and that you have started your own company and you bartend for weddings and private parties!. You can get some friends and neighbors to give you some letters of recommendations!.

This will be very impressive because it will show experience but also the responsibility!.!.!.because you are a bartender AND a business owner!.

But to be honest, I do not recommend lying on your resume!. Instead, actually become a FREELANCE BARTENDER, you may find that you enjoy this lifestyle better, especially while you are in school!.

You only work on the weekends, you can charge what you want, and you only need to serve simple drinks like Vodka Redbull!. This is what I do, and I easily make $500+ in CASH every Friday and Saturday!.

I hate to do it, but if you think my answer was helpful, I have to plug my BLOG at www!.bartenderconfessions!.com!.!.!.you can learn a lot more about the lifestyle of Freelance Bartending!. I can even send you the Blueprints to get your business up and running and marketed properly!.!.!.oh and I have customized
business cards for FREE too!

I hope I could help!

you don't want a job in a nice restaurant as a bartender with no experience!. you will have a REEEEALLY hard time with it!. start as a server or bar back, learn, ask questions, and work your way up!. no amount of reading or taking 'classes' will substitute genuine experience!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Don't go to bartending school! This is just a waste of time and money!. Usually the best thing to do is start as a barback or hostess or waiter or assistant!. Nice restaurants have a holding bar to serve patrons when the restaurant is at capacity!. Get your foot in the door and if you get on the good side of the people that work there and express an interest in bartending someone will take you under their wing and show you the ropes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You generally have to start somewhere with less expectations, and climb the respect ladder based on your bar knowledge, skills and experience!. That being said, sometimes a place will take you on if they like your attitude or look, but it really hinges on the experience!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Unfortunately!.!.!.most places like to promote bartenders from within!. So, get yourself a job as a waitress!.!.!.!.get a little experience, and then go apply at the fancy place as a waitress!. Once you get in, make it known that you want to train to be a bartender, and hope that something opens up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

firstly, generally most places will train you thoroughly, through cocktails and how to serve and stuff!.

also, how old are you!? you say through school!.
you have to be 18 to work in most restaurants, bars etc, if youre serving alcohol!.

have you got a mate who lives in a pub!? or!.!.!.do you have any friends who work in bars!? because they can always ask their bosses during very slow periods if they can give you a bit of a lesson or two on bartending!.

failing that, online courses!? or similar!? good luck:)Www@FoodAQ@Com

i had no experience, and just learned from watching!. apply for a waitstaff postion and let them them you are interested in learning to bartend!. doesn't hurt to put it out there!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
