Where did the idea that Guinness isn't beer come from?!

Question: Where did the idea that Guinness isn't beer come from!?
I see comments all the time here that Guinness isn't beer!.

Guinness is a stout!.!.!. a watered down stout, but still a stout none the less!. Stouts are a classification of ales and ales are beers!.

Where did this come from!? Why do people believe it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Planet Earth as a whole seems to know very little about the strength in depth of beer in all its forms and I find this a little sad!. What with the Buds & Stellas & Amstels & Millers being the first thing anybody is ever taught to be erm "beer" there is little wonder that even an "OK" stout like Guinness can be thought of by some as an alien species!. It would a be beer if it was Guinness Lite and served with a slice of lime I guess!.!.!. and tasted of stale rice!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have no idea where that came from!. I recently tried Guinness
Extra Stout and actually like it!. Granted, i can only drink like three of them before i get full!. Not drunk, just full!. As a result, i drink them very slow, unlike most of the beers i drink!.

Maybe the idea came from people that think a Lexus means more than a Toyota, when they are the same company!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sweeheart I was just stating that it is in fact a stout!.!.!. being a stout it is a beer!. Your question doesnt make much sense if you ask me!. I have never heard any1 say it is not a beer nor a stoutWww@FoodAQ@Com

The idea comes from Ireland and the company that makes it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I never heard that before!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

*Wow*

I'm injured by that comment--this has been my ultimate beer since I was legal to drink ok even before that!. My philosophy on beer is that if it looks like p*ss it's gonna taste like it so give me a real beer anyday!

People who have the type of comment like above-know nothing about beer!.

I embarrass my husband at times with my love and protection of Guinness but what can I say, I love me Guinness! I will buy strangers at pub a pint of Guinness, I want them to expand their horizon from Bud, or Coors Light, or Canadian!.

I mean who wouldn't want a free pint right!?! Well you'd imagine the strange looks I get--I have actually convertered a few uncouth people onto the finer art of beer lol!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mayor!.!.!.I haven't heard people say Guinness isn't beer!.!.!.until I read that answer by ShdwWlf!.!.!. wow!.!.!.some people are really dumb!.

whatever though, some people are just ignorant of beer and alcohol!.

Which is why you, me, Axel, TE, AleSmith, Jpiepenbrok, and the rest of the TC's in the B, W, & S are here to answer all these ridiculous questions!. Lets just shrug it off and set people on the correct path!.

BTW, Axel I accidentally gave you a thumbs down!.!.!.lol!. I read your answer too quickly and assumed that it was some dumb person answering with a wiki quote!. Then I noticed it was you!.!.!.so here is an arbitrary thumbs up!. Funny stuff!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Am an Irish girl so all I can tell you is that have always known it as a pint of stout, and that is what my dad and pals would call it!.

I used to love my Guinness when used to drink and the best Guinness ever had was at the Dublin Hop Stores where they made the stuff as was a gallery there(went when in art college) had a free tour and a tasting, was delicious and they put a shamrock on the creamy top as pulling the pint!.

I was the same as Yummy Mummy and really used to enjoy my Guinness but have to say never called it a beer ever, just a pint of the Black Stuff or as we used to say "We're sucking Diesel now" after a few pints!.

Used to be nothing nicer than on a cold wet rainy day here in Ireland in Winter and our pals would jump into a little pub and abit of music playing in the corner, open fire and a pint of Guinness (great days)!.

You should try Guinness and Champagne, a Black Velvet, delicious!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Guinness isn't a beer, it's a book of world records!.
edit:
hehe, see, wiki even says so:
"Guinness World Records, known until 2000 as The Guinness Book of Records (and in previous U!.S!. editions as The Guinness Book of World Records), is a reference book published annually, containing an internationally recognized collection of world records, both human achievements and the extreme of the natural world!. The book itself holds a world record, as the best-selling copyrighted series of all-time!."

Edit2: BigGuy, you're forgiven, I was a little pissed at the 3 thumbs down, but hey, I obviously was too sarcastic for it to be seen as a joke, and mostly, I was just being a smartass!. Obviously the wiki edit was just there to not answer the question and use a wiki copy/paste to piss off Mayor as a joke!. I personally thought it was pretty funny!.

Edit3!.14: And if no one has clicked on the world record link below, it's worth clicking on!. oh yeah!. good stuff!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
