How much alcohol and tobacco can you bring into the uk from France for personal use?!
Answers:
The thing to be aware of is the difference between DUTY-FREE prices or NON DUTY-FREE prices!.
If you buy cigarettes in the duty free shop on the Ferry or the Eurotunnel then you ARE limited to 800 cigarettes (or 200 cigars), 90 litres of wine, 10 litres of spirits, etc!. The key fact is that these goods are not subject to any tax!.
However, if you go to the nearest French branch of Carrefour or other shop and pay the same price as the locals (ie!. including French taxes and vat), then you can buy as much Alcohol and Cigarettes as you want, the key factor being that they must be for "personal use"!. HMC&E have the power to seize your goods if they don't believe your story about a large family wedding coming up or that all those thousands of cigarettes are for your own use, etc, if they think you'll try and sell them on down the pub or something on the cheap!. If you bring back 1000s then you might come under suspicion, especially if you make regular trips!. Not that many cars are ever stopped!. They're mostly on the look-out for heavily laden white transit vans rather than the average motorist, as lets face it, there's only so much stuff you can stack in a car, especially if there are already four adults inside as well!!
If you have your own car, then drive across the border to Belgium (come off at the first junction - Adinkerke - and take your pick of the tobacconists, most open 24hours - they don't call it 'Cigarette City' for nothing) and buy your fags there!. Belgian duty is cheaper than French duty!. It's well worth the extra 30-45minute drive from Calais!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you can bring back as much as you like but you have to prove it is for personal use
the "recommended guidelines" are -
3kg of tobacco (60 pouches)
3,200 cigarettes (they get a bit funny if there are too many different brands)
booze they don't worry about too much but you have to watch the weight limit of your vehicle
Can't remember the cigars I think it is 100

Within reason it is fairly unlimited if you can prove that it is for you own personal consumption!.
If you are loading up a van with massive quantities then you stand a good chance of getting pulled and your goods confiscated!.
If you came back from France with 1,000 fags and 100 litres of wine you would be fine amd probably if you could fit more in your car you would be OK!.
I would suggest you but your fags in Belgium as they are cheapest there as France is now expensive!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

As much as you can fool them into believing it's ALL for your personal use - so for instance, the tobacco will all have to be the same brand, and the booze if going to be for a surprise party you're throwing in memory of your great-great-great-grandmother's neighbour's friend's cat who lived down the road two hundred years ago!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!Www@FoodAQ@Com
i'm pretty sure there's no limit any more, i brought back a bottle of wine, 3 litre's of vodka, some tequilla and whiskey!.!.!. and i was fine! so you know that you can bring back the amount i did safely =) xWww@FoodAQ@Com
As much as you like as long as it is for personal consumption!.
You will only get away with it, about every three months!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
