Does anybody know good places for grape picking in Europe?!
This summer I would like to go off and experience grape picking preferrably in Germany as I can speak that better than French!. Anybody got any experience of doing this!? Best place to look for vacancies!? Not really sure whether it is better to go and look for work over there or to look now on the internet (although i have found nothing as of yet)!. Thanks in advance!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi, sorry cannot help on the Germany front however I have experienced grape picking in the Loire Valley - stayed at a gite on a farm virtually rent free with lots of free Muscadet !.!.!.!. warning - back breaking work and take gloves!
Have a look at the Gites available and see if they need help if they are situated on a farm
Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The best thing to do would be to call several different wineries a few months before harvest to inquire about helping out!. These places will want to have their crews ready to go long before the harvest actually begins!.
As far as picking the grapes i can only tell you from my experiences here in Oregon that it is done by very experienced and fast crews!. It is back breaking and must be done with great speed and precision!. Your best bet for getting hired onto a harvest crew will be for the sorting line, cleaning and general cellar rat duties!.
also know that typically these positions can last for upwards of 6 weeks, so if you are only planning on going for a few days or a week make sure to let them know!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
