I have jumped off the boat and swam around in the lake or river after drinking more times then I can count, and I have never had a close call!. One time I got stuck in a pretty strong current, and it took me a while to get back to the boat, but it was fine!.
But I have been in the water since I was born, and started swimming lessons when I was 3 or 4!. I am a very strong swimmer, am comfortable in the water, and have experience with what to do in different situations (such as getting caught in an undertow)
You'd have to be pretty damn stupid to drown in a pool, so I would definately say you should be fine in a pool unless all you can do is the doggy paddle!.
Every year you hear on the news about dumbasses who jump into the river/ocean/lake when they aren't good swimmers and end up drowning!. So if you suck at swimming, don't jump into natural bodies of water!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't know just how many people have drowned while swimming while drunk!. It has been many more than I want to remember!. It is usually because they don't have the judgment to not try things that are not safe, form diving off into unknown water head first or trying to swim across a large body of water and not making it!. You can drown in as little as 4 inches of water if you're unconscious!. If you're tipsy, you risk ending up with some vomit in the pool, but no harm done!. If you (or your guests) plan to get REALLY tanked, with the possibility of passing out, you should forget about the pool!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It was like a 5-foot above ground pool and I was at my buddy's house and we were all hanging out outside and I looked at my friend and said "Lets jump in" and we did! The only problem was we both FELL out of the pool getting out, but swimming under water and everything is pretty cool and what not!.
