I need to buy a bucket to make Alcohol in. What type of plastic is safe to use?!
Answers:
Any of the food grade HDPE buckets (recycle triangle 2) should work for brewing beer or wine!. Lids that have a tear-tab strip might not seal as well as ones that don't!. Your local brew shop is the best source for fermentors best suited for brewing, but other food dealers would work as well!.
If you are worried about leeching from the plastic into the beer or wine, then consider using glass carboys instead!. The glass is heavier and can break, but it less permeable to oxygen and easier to sanitize in the long run!. Plastic can get little scratches that can hold nasties that can spoil your beer or wine!. also with glass you can see the yeast swirling around during fermentation!. It is just way cool!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
