I'm 20, who thinks it is bad that i drink?!
answer from a moral or political standpointWww@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
That depends on when you started!. If you're 20 and you just started, that's fine!.
Political standpoint, what you're doing is illegal!.
Moral standpoint, it's no worse than anyone 21+ drinking it!.
Now, if you were a high school student, then morally, that would be wrong because people who drink at a young age are more likely to grow up and become alcoholics!. However, even drinking occasionally as a teen would be fine as long as it's not in excess!. Anyway, being that you're 20, there's really nothing wrong with it, except that it's illegal!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Scientific stand point:
Research has shown that the education on and introduction of alcohol at early ages, along with open honest communication can prevent issues like binge drinking and alcoholism!. Further more it has also been shown to reduce incidents of drunk driving!.
Now, I'm not saying that we should allow a 14 year old to muscle up to the bar and order a scotch and soda!. What I'm saying is that allowing them to have a glass of wine or beer with the occasional dinner and then talking to them about it afterwards is OK!.

Moral standpoint:
You became an adult at the age of 18 and should be afforded the rights of an adult!. The raising of the purchasing age* to 21 was nothing more than an olive branch given to abstinence groups and the last few remaining members of the Temperance Movement!. It has unfortunately caused far more harm than good!. Adult 18 - 20 are forced to hide their alcohol consumption and end up becoming binge drinkers and alcoholics at earlier ages because of it!. For those of you who will now point out "what about drunk driving rate!?" Incidents of drunk driving have been on a steady decline since the late 70's!.!.!. years before the 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age Act!. Public awareness/education of the issue is a far more effect tool to prevent it!. Currently, four states are review the issue and have proposed lowering the purchasing age back to 18!. **
*I said age to purchase because there is no consistency in alcohol policies through out the US!. The 1984 act only told states that if they didn't limit the purchase of alcohol to individuals 21 and over, they wouldn't get highway funding!. As a result 17 states allow the consumption and position of alcohol by those under 21 and many more allow both under parental supervision!.

well, down our corner of the globe, one can legally purchase alcohol from 18yo, and drink under parental supervision much earlier, so obviously we don't have the puritanical perceptions of your gov/society!
I've been drinking wine with dinner ~ weekly since about 14, and regularly (several times weekly) drinking since maybe 17!. I drink probably 8 drinks a week currently (a wine with dinner a couple of times during week, a few on weekend, or a few beers out)!. in other words, don't drink every day, but will have several drinks when catching up with friends/family!.
although one could argue (in your case/country) "but you're breaking the law", I think there are a lot more serious illegal activities you could be carrying out, and it has been proven that countries where young people have their first exposure to alcohol in a family setting, and without the stigma of the forbidden, have less teen binge drinking probs etc!. I think prohibition is a bigger political risk, but obviously lawmakers have to draw the line somewhere!.
I'm sure you'll over-indulge from time to time (we all do, right!?), but as long as you're keeping it in check, I don't think it's bad that you drink at 20, at all!
do you think it's bad!? do you think there is a moral reason not to drink!? I think as long as you're enjoying yourself, staying safe (not putting yourself in dangerous situations, not damaging your health) and not being annoying/hurtful to those around you, no worries!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

(moral stand point) : You can and you should!. Why!? It's because 18 yrs!. old and above can absorb the heavy content of an alcohol - It's scientifically proven!. But always: "Too much is dangerous"!. Always be an occassional drinker, once a month or if there is a party or social gathering!.

its not bad as long as you can control yourself!. i mean it is part of the french culture for kids as young as 12 to drink wine at the dinner table every night, these kids, well their parents, control what they consume, and if u can do that, u shouldnt hav a problem with alcoholism!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
