Glenmorangie is a Highland Single Malt, so you could either expand within the Glenmorangie lineup or move to some sibling distillery in the region!.

Sadly the Glenmorangie wood finishes (which is what they're technically called) are no longer being produced!. You can still find them, but it's getting tougher!. There were 4 finishes (Port, Madeira, Sherry, Burgundy) with the Madeira being the toughest to find stateside!.

Just as annoying is the fact that Glenmorangie recently revamped their entire lineup, dropping the legendary 10, 15, 18 and 21year old for new versions!. You'll see both on the shelf, the original versions have the parchment colored labels with the brown lettering and pictures!.

SO: Within Glenmorangie any of the original lineup or finished versions would be a good buy!. The 10 is cheap, but is one of my personal favorites!. The 15 is very good and I've never tried the 18 but I suspect it would be well worth it!.

In the new lineup the "Original 10" is good, sweeter and less malty than the old 10 year old!. Haven't tried the others!.

Neighbors of Glenmorangie (Northern Highland) would be Dalmore (very good), Glen Ord (tough to find), Old Pulteney, Tomatin and Balblair!. I'd look at the Dalmore from that list, partly because I like Dalmore and partly because it's the only distillery you're likely to see at a liquor store!.

Another option would be to look at Speyside Scotches!. They're generally sweet, matching some of the finish results from Glenmorangie!. I'm very fond of Balvenie and Glenfarclas!.

Other finished scotches would include:
Bowmore's Dawn, Dusk and Darkest!. These are Islay scotches, though, and unless you know he likes peaty flavors avoid them!.
Balvenie 21 Port Casked: Very good, in the $120 range and one of my favorites!.
Glenlivet French Oak: Theres a 12 and a 15 year old!. Both are very good, very light and sweet whiskies!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Glenmorangie is a scotch producer, not a style!. They have several different offerings!. He probably drinks the "Original" regularly!. I'd get the 18 year old version which is a bit pricier, but a great gift idea!.

Often, scotch drinkers are very loyal to their favorite producer and drink their standard offering primarily!. Giving a higher end scotch from a favorite producer as a gift is almost always deeply appreciated!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Stick to what he enjoys, Most scotch drinkers, Stick with what they enjoy, Just get him a bottle of Glenmorangie!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
