Question: "PROOF" in alcoholic beverages!.!?
Why is liquor's alcoholic content shown as "PROOF" instead of just percentage!?Www@FoodAQ@Com


Answers:
This goes back to the time of the pioneers!. If a trapper or woodsman bought a whiskey at a local trading post, he would pour a little into a pile of his black power and light it!. If it went up in a flash even though it was wet, it was proof that the trade post did not dilute it!. This happens at 100 proof!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Its just a different way to measure alcohol content!. Kind of like the difference between Fahrenheit and Celsius for temperature; or using measuring spoons to measure something instead of cups for volume measurement!.
