Question: Do you have to let red wine breathe!? And what is the glass container with the wide bottom called!?
Does it taste different if we let it "breathe" in a wide container instead of pouring from the bottle!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
No you don't have to, but it won't do any harm!.

Pouring the wine in the glass (a large wine glass, fill no more than a third) will quickly aerate the wine!.

The large based container is called a decanter, because you decant wine into it!.

Basically the younger the wine is, the more it benefits over some aeration, but a really old fine wine could be killed by such treatment!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Its called a decanter!. some wines have to settle to allow the sediments to sink to the bottom; then youi pour off [decant is what the chemist calls it] the drinkable stuff!.

Most wines from the supermarket [metlots, etc] won't benefit from "breathing!." But other grapes, especially pinon noir, actually do taste better if you let them breathe for about 20 min!.

Have fun!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should let any wine breathe 10 to 15 minutes after opening it!. The container is a carafe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
