Are you talking about the 5 gallon bottles for secondary ferment!? If so, they should be glass!. Plastic breaths and will allow oxidation of your brew!.

If you're talking about small drinking water bottles (like 1 liter or smaller), NO!. Don't bottle your beer in plastic!. You're better off using empty champagne bottles!. I got mine from a couple of wedding receptions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you can get your hands on some bottles of Grolsch these are ideal for home brew!.
If it's cider you are brewing then a 5 gallon drum is best with a plastic bag over the cap with an elastic band to allow the gases to expand!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

When the yeast eats the sugars it makes alcohol AND carbon dioxide!. Without and airlock, the bottles will explode!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
