Answers:
Dry yeast should last almost indefinitely!. Even liquid cultures can last well past their "sell by" dates (if refrigerated)!. They just need a lot longer to get started!.
Now, which is it!? Are you making plonk wine with vintners' yeast or beer with brewers' yeast!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

What is plonk!?
True yeast does have a shelf life!.
Cheap test:
If you want to test it (if brewing beer) you can pitch the yeast into a starter culture of sterile wort {about a litre}!. (-OR- a sugar solution)!. If in a few hours you get a vigorous fermentation the yeast is good!. Plus you have increased your cell count for pitching your batch & in-turn improving its quality!.
Oh, your question!.
A dried yeast should be good for two years and lose viability soon after that as time goes on!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Buy new yeast!. Yeast is an organism essential to the fermentation process!. If your yeast is weak, your product will be bad!. You don't want to spend the time and effort and money on something that fails because your ingredients were shoddy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
