What's the difference between light and dark rum?!
Is dark rum charred barrel aged or something!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
In general, yes!. Let's look in terms of three types (definately generalizing here)!.
Light rums are sometimes aged in barrels, but then filtered to remove any residual color!. Light rums can also be aged in stainless steel tanks, resultingin no added color!.
Gold rums are normally barrel aged, but some less expensive brands add artificial coloring to the liquid to, in effect, speed up the process!. Most spiced rums are based on gold rum!.
There are also some black rums that spend a lot more time in the barrel and are very flavorful!. So much so they are most commonly used in cooking!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
