Assuming your referencing the works of Steinbeck, Hemmingway and Ian Fleming--I think there's more the common thread than a taste of alcohol that binds them and other famed writers of early 20th century works!.
Steinbeck, Fleming and Hemmingway both were men of adventure--facets of their robust lives were part of the inspiration for Indiana Jones' character!. And being they were macho men of their day, alcohol consumption was part of such a man's image!.
I don't think their tastes for the drink really played a part into their literary talents; it was part of their lives as macho men of adventure!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
