Chantix has done wonders for me!. I smoked for 23 years and for the first time I feel like I can really quit!. I have tried to quit 3 or 4 times in the past, but could never be 100% faithful to my effort!. With the Chantix, for whatever reason, I don't FEEL like smoking!. It is expensive, but luckily for me my insurance covers part of it, and you can get $10!.00 off per prescription from your Dr!. It retails for around $120!.00 full price, but if you consider after one week on it you don't smoke anymore, it will actually save you $ in the long run!.
Your state will also provide you with the patch and a support network as part of the tobacco lawsuit settlement!.
Good luck, if I can do it you can do it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've had good results with Commit lozenges!. I like them better than the gum or patch!. Walgreens and CVS also have their own store brand and they are fine too!.
The good thing about the lozenge is that you can pop one when you feel the urge!. You do get a satisfying little nicotine rush, plus it gives you something to physically do in response to that urge!.
Keep the lozenge tucked in your cheek!. Don't suck on it!. Move it around once in awhile!.
It's a great first step in quitting!. Take as long as you need to break the behavioral/social habit of grabbing a cigarette, then you can eventually start cutting back on the lozenges to deal with the nicotine addiction!. It's easier than trying to do both at once!

Sounds like the answers from Bogie & Rainbow are more current than what I could offer you!.
I quit 10 years ago!. I was up to almost 2 packs a day when I finally quit!. I had smoked for almost 30 years & had tried to quit at least 8 times before, but it had never lasted for more than 10 days, so in my mind I had stopped smoking for awhile, but had never really quit until I REALLY made up my mind & no matter what happened, I never picked up another cigarette!.
It took a good 2 to 3 years to get all the bad stuff out of my system, but I get a lot fewer colds, can taste my food better & hardly ever have sinus problems like I used to!. Plus, I have saved a whole lot of money - most of which I put away so I could retire early!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Chantix is the most effective med!. Zyban/Wellbutrin can work as well!. Finally, the Commit nicotine lozenges are better than the gum, though there's no guarantee they'll work for you!.
The crankiness is part of withdrawal and you pretty much just have to live with it until it goes away!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
