I want to get a bottle of wine from the year 2000, as that year has special meaning to me!.!.!.any recommendations!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
This depends on when you want to drink the wine!.

If you want a wine to drink right now, California red wines are excellent!. 2000 vintage is drinking well at present and will remain so for next couple of years!. For special occasion, think of higher price wine such as Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet ($100), Pride Cabernet ($65), Caymus Cabernet ($60), Jordan ($40), Joseph Phelps Cabernet ($45)!. All of these will be drinking great at present, so cheers!

If you want a wine to preserve, then I would go for 2000 Bordeaux!. Bordeaux Vintage year 2000 is absolutely fantastic, and these are wine that can last for next 10-40 years!. For top growth wines such as Mouton and Lafite ($400-600), you will have to cellar at least 15-20 years before they are drinkable!. I have a few of these what I called Grandkids wine so I can open them when my grandkids are born!. You can get lower growth wines such as Clerc Milon and Chateau Duhart Milon ($40-50) which should be drinking in 10 years or so!.

You can also consider some bubbly!. For French Champagne, 2000 produce some vintage Champagne, including Dom Perignon ($160) and La Grande Dame ($170)!. For California, some of the wineries makes some good champagnes, but I am not sure if the year 2000 is available for sell at this point!.

You can look online with some of my wine merchants - www!.winestreet!.com, www!.dukeofbourbon!.com, www!.groezingers!.com, www!.shwc!.com!. Many of these still have stock of good 2000 year wines for you to enjoy, either now or later!. If might be fun to get a nice bottle to drink now, then get a few bottles to cellar so you can drink them down the road - since the price of wine will go up, especially for those highly sought after 2000 Bordeaux!.

Try emailing the actual wineries themselves!. They often hand onto vintages in their cellars!. other than that try private sales like craigslist or boutique shops!. I don't think you'll find any in your average store as they usually only keep up to 3 or 4 years old at the oldest!.

If you know anyone in an upper scale restaurant they may have some reserves as well!.

Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com
