I am the opposite!.!. I cannot, for the life of me, develop a taste for scotch!. Too heavy a taste!. However, I only like two bourbon whiskeys, and neither of them are sweet!. Like the other poster mentioned, Maker's Mark is good but I prefer Jim Beam which is distilled in oak barrels!. Beam's Special is especially good!. I cannot stand Jack Daniels as it is so sweet and gives me a headache!. I call it Rot Gut!.!. lol!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It all depends on your personal tastes, and of course on the particular type of bourbon you are sampling, and what you are mixing it with (if anything)!. I am similar to the other answerer in that I have no liking of scotch thus far but I absolutely love bourbon, even some of the "inferior" cheap ones!. In fact I'll sooner choose a poor quality bourbon rather than a scotch, however I will qualify that with saying I've only tried two varieties of scotch thus far, and I have a tremendous sweet tooth (possibly all my teeth are 'sweet')!.
I would just continue with the scotch and not worry too much, and if you have friends or associates you drink with that are bourbon drinkers, ask them to let you sample any decent varieties they have!. Generally the cheaper the brand, the sweeter it is, and this isn't always good even if you do have a sweet tooth!. You may find one that you like or that doesn't make you feel ill!. If I was averse to my dislike of scotch I'd be doing this as soon as I find a friend or associate that drinks scotch LOL!. But I don't have any motivation to change my tastes at this point!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd have to go with the prior answers!. Bourbon tastes/is sweeter than scotch, scotch is a dryer (purer) distillation/fermentation!. I would think the sugar content is a factor (that's why I get sick as hell if I drink my wife's Apple Martini's when I could handle a vodka/rocks w/olive no prob)!.
Personally I find either palatable but will have more after affects (aka hangover) from drinking too much bourbon!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

more sugars in bourbon, and its also made with the 1st firing of the barrel, so it has a lot more of the chemicals and flavoring from the oak barrel, scotch and many whiskies are made from used bourbon barrels that has had much of their wood chemicals already leached out, so that could be the problem too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Are you drinking quality bourbon!?
Some Bourbon is very, very sweet and that can be nauseating to some people!. Cheap bourbon can be awful, lots of vinegar flavors and harsh alcohol under all that sticky sweetness!.
I love both Scotch and Bourbon!. I'm fond of Eagle Rare, Bulleit and Bakers and lots of bars carry Maker's Mark, which is a great bourbon for the price!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I drink Scotch - but only reasonably good ones - but I can't for the life of me stand Bourbon - far too sweet and syrupy [and I have tried 2 or 3 good brands]!. I think Scotch drinkers are a breed on their own!. Once you get to like it, that's it for bourbon and other spirits!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I reckon scotch is made for drinking straight and bourbon is better mixed (ie: with coke)!. Theres nothin better than a good B&C!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
