It is pretty interesting!. You can just sit there and not say or do anything if you want, but listen to everything! It is people getting to the root of their problem, and talking about how fekin nuts it is to drink, and how it fecked up their lives!. It is a place where you know you are not alone!. A typical meeting is like psychology 102!.
The meetings give inspiration to people who cant find inspiration in themselves to keep from drinking, by providing love and support from others in the same situation to keep them from drinking!.
I would just try one if I were you!. Some are huge, and smoke filled!. Some are small and everyone knows each other!. Some are just there!. Name any kind of demographics group and you can probably find a meetig if you are in a large city!. There is a list for your area that shows all the different kinds of meetings!. You have to find the group that is right for you!. If you don't like it, find another one to try!. They are everywhere and have all kinds of different local cultures, and their own click!. The root of the message is the same!. (I don't want to drink anymore!.)
The golden rule, no matter what else, don't treat a meeting like a social event!. It is a place to vent and get support!. The support will be overwhelming and give you hope!. When you leave, leave the people alone unless they expressly indicate that they want to be your friend, or whatever!.
The bottom line!.!. It is something like Dysfunctional Church for Alcoholics!. (Imagine how interesting that can be!)
Just do it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

during that time I did not drink as a pledge to my friend!.!.
the girl fell off in the first year!.!.
the guy stayed active for 4 years,, to fall off about 3 years ago ,,but has not been in trouble that I know of!.!.
visit the AA web site
a meeting may start with some prayers and reciting their codes !.!.
an introduction (first name only or an alias)
a reason you are there etc
they retire with the prayer "God give me the strength to change what I can,, accept the things I can't,, ,the wisdom to know the difference"Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a former alcoholic and went to meetings for many years!. You really should go check one out and see for yourself--it's hard to describe what goes on!. There's reading, and praying, hand-holding (at some meetings) and chanting; talking (sometimes in nearly incomprehensible jargon) and sometimes cheering!. All in all, quite bizarre!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
