I agree with DrosseL!. Any absinthe sold in the US is "fake" in the sense that it does not have the ingredient that supposedly causes hallucinations!. That ingredient, wormwood and its derivative thujune, is illegal in the US for human consumption!.
So all the absinthe marketed in the US does not have this ingredient and therefore will not make you hallucinate!. So it's just a high proof liquorice tasting drink!. And yes, you can get this legally!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you want to splurge- "La Fee" is pretty good!. The Absinthe Parisienne is my favorite!.
"La Fée Absinthe Parisienne is distilled in Paris based on a 19th Century recipe containing wormwood and is the only absinthe authenticated by Marie-Claude Delahaye, founder and curator of the absinthe museum!."
This website offers it with about a week turnaround!.
Lots of great info and fun stuff on this site!.

Le Fee had a huge US launch party for absinthe in New York just a bit ago!.
http://www!.lafeeabsinthe!.com/content/vie!.!.!.
If you want something a little more economical -"Absente", is a great alternative( as far as look and taste goes) to La Fee's Parisian Absinthe!. Its sold in many chain liquer stores such as ABC liquer & Total Wine!. Absente also comes in gift packs with a slotted spoon and absinthe glasses!.
http://www!.absente!.com/
Most people have only heard of it and heard the rumours about it but have never even drank it themselves---- I have been drinking it for a few years!. I also collect absinthe related items!. ;DWww@FoodAQ@Com
