I have a hard lesson for you sweetheart!.!.!.take it from someone with 20years of experience with a dad who drinks!. My dad is now homeless and unemployed!. The only reason he's even still alive is because my sister and I are taking care of him!. He's been drinking so long that he can't function in society anymore!. We've been through treatment centers with him and programs and endless promises of quitting!.
You have to remember that alcoholism IS a disease and some people don't get cured!.
You can't make anyone change or want to be better!. He has to want it for himself and there's nothing you can do other than seriously express how it's affecting you and your life together!. Make sure you explain that you love him and you care about him!.
That's the best advice I have!. Make sure you're ALWAYS upfront and honest with him about how his drinking makes YOU feel!. Don't hold back to keep from hurting his feelings!.
I hope you have the best of luck with this !.
I'm not saying a lot of people don't wake up and get better, but sadly, you have to remember that all of them don't!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I really feel for you, I went through the same thing with my dad and I know how painful it is to watch!. My dad also went to rehab and was sober for about a month before he started drinking again!. My best advice is to find a local Alanon (if you're an adult) or Alateen (if you're a teen) meeting and go!
There's really not much you can do if someone doesn't want to get help, but there are ways to deal with the pain it causes you and find peace with yourself!.

I wish you all the best, I know how hard this is for you, but there is hope!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad!. Have you had an intervention yet!? The only thing you can do is tell him how his drinking/smoking habits are hurting you, and you can support him when he does decide to stop!. A helpful resource for you is Alanon, or Alateen!. alanon!.org is their website!.

Best of luck, I hope your dad gets healthy and he's lucky to have a daughter like you who is trying to help him!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are in a very difficult situation right now!. The best thing he needs is your support and professional help!. Help him overcome his addication!. Check the website!. It was designed for family and friends of alcoholics!.

I know it sounds crazy but I showed my dad a picture of a healthy pair of lungs and one of a person that had smoked for years and the same with the liver!. And then I showed him a picture of his two grandsons!.!.!.he quit soon after that!Www@FoodAQ@Com

i got the same problem!.

just sit down and talk to him and tell him how you feel and if that doesn't work talk to other family members and have a big group meeting and try and get him to go to rehabWww@FoodAQ@Com

send him to rehab or have like an intervention with him ; therapy any of those!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

let him know how much it pains you to see him drinkingWww@FoodAQ@Com

ask him if his addiction a rish losing you!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Force him to think!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.ask him if he were to die tomorrow, what does he think would happen to his kids and family!? My mom use to drink heavily until I used my uncle's death as an example!. My uncle died with no warning from so many years of doing nothing but drinking!. He layed in his apartment on the floor dead for 2 days before anyone even bothered to force open his apartment door where they found him!. My mom and my uncle were close and I explained what life would be like without her!. What do you know, because she was really thinking hard that day and was depressed she did drink for the rest of the day, but the next day and forward, she never touched a beer again!. Good luck and I wish you luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
