I work in a bar and I take great pleasure in the phrase "the management reserves the right to refuse service for any reason"!. We don't have to serve people and there's no obligation at all to serve in the right order - facts that I remember whenever I'm out waiting for drinks on the other end!
Personally, my tactic for getting noticed is to wait for the bartender to finish serving someone, then lean forward and smile at them!. Sometimes they'll ask "who's next", but if they're any good, they'll have a rough idea of what order people arrived in!. It also helps to wait near the tills, or stand next to someone you know is about to be served!. Pointing out someone who was there before you is a sure way of becoming the next in line too!Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you are not a regular, or do not know the bartender personally; The Best, Easiest, and FASTEST way to get a drink is to hold out some money!. The bartender will see it, and will be over to you as soon as he/she can!. Trust me!.

If you flash a $20 or hold a few bills visibly in your hand over the bar and sit patiently I will come to you first, Always!. Unless of course my regulars or friends are in the bar!.!.!.but then I'm coming to you next!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm always polite and try and make chit chat it normally gets you a fair way with the staff
i was a bartender in London and sore both sides of it often we would get customers from the USA who where rude and often customer rudeness=bad service or no service tapping coins or glasses on bar or whistling will get you nowhere fast
often if your know to the staff and liked they will be offering or pouring your next drink before you ask

demanding something from someone who can give a light pour and still charge the same does nothing but lighten your pockets!.

Insistent but polite, that's me!. Bang the glass to get noticed, then ask very politely for a refill!.
