Light vs. dark beer?!

Question: Light vs!. dark beer!?
What's the difference between the light beers and the real dark colored ones!? I'm not really a beer drinker and from what I've tasted (Miller, Corona, Bud) it all seemed to be the same!. Help me understand please!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Dark beers get their color and flavor from the malted barley used to make them!. When the malt is dried, it can be "toasted" to any color from natural pale tan all the way to black, almost charred!. The beer will reflect the color and flavor of the malt!.

Think of a piece of bread going into your toaster!. When it is just untoasted bread, it is very bland (that's what most mass market beer is made from) then it gets golden, then brown, then dark brown, and eventually it will burn!. The colors and flavors of toasting malt parallel the colors and flavors of toasting bread very closely!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are massive differences between light and dark beers!.

Your Bud, Miller, Coors variety is on one end of the spectrum!. These are very light lagers with minimal flavor meant for mass appeal and low cost!.

On the complete other end of the spectrum you have your dark beers!. Stouts, Porters, Scotch Ales and so on!. These are big thick heavy chalked full of flavor monsters!. Personally my favorite type of beers!.

Guiness is a good beginners Stout!. While it is dark and has considerably more body than any light colored beer, it still cannot compare to many of the microbrewed quality stouts!.

There are so many styles of beer from light to dark and in between!. Just got to find a style and go with it!. Find a shop where you can mix a six pack and try some new brews!. Try a pale ale to understand hops, then go to an IPA if you like the bitterness!. Barley wines will give you the sweet malt and bitter hops!. Porters are great starter dark beers, vanilla, coffee and chocolate flavored porters should not be hard to find!.

just start drinking new beer, best way to learn!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Since you've already got a perfectly fine definition I'll skip that and recommend trying different varieties of Sam Adams!. They make all types and colors of beer and you'll get a uniform sampling and can decide what you like!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Gunnies is a thick dark beer!. It fills you up and hits you hard!. Lighter beer are weaker you can stomach more!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
