What are the consequences if you get caught drinking underage?!
Answers:
It definitely varies from state-to-state!. It will also vary with age, and what kind of alcohol you were caught with, and where you were caught with it!.
One of your answerers said that if you are between 18-21, the consequences would be more severe-- this is likely to be true!. If you are under 18, you "don't know any better", but the day you turn 18, you suddenly understand everything in life, fully ; )!. ( I still can't understand how, at 18, you can vote, own a gun, and fight in wars, but not have a beer!.!.!.!.)
Anyway!. I live in Massachusetts, and I am 22, so I have witnessed the underaged drinking in my more recent years!.
Sometimes, a group of kids gets caught and they are told to pour out their beer and get a scolding, just to scare them a little!. If it's a big group of kids and/or a LOT of alcohol (especially hard alcohol), they may be arrested!. I know of some underaged people who were at a party with alcohol, and something liike 19 of them were taken away in a paddywagon!. I also know someone who only had one opened can of beer in his hand, and he stepped outside of his college dorm!. He was immediately cuffed, taken in, printed, had mug shots taken, and then had to go to court, pay fines, and attend classes about how you shouldn't smoke crack and rape people!.
I'm not advocating underaged drinking, because I just shouldn't!. But people will do what they like, so I will try to give you (or whomever) a few pointers to stay out of trouble!.
--NEVER EVER drink and drive!-- (a friend of mine lost his license for a long time, mostly because he was too young to be drinking when he was caught)!.!.!. common sense
--Be careful who you party with-- if the people involved have a history of getting into trouble, or being showy about their illegal behavior, remember that history repeats itself!. You do NOT want attention drawn to you when you are doing something illegal!
--Remember that a dorm room is NOT safe!-- most colleges try to crack down very hard on underaged drinking!. RAs WILL find out and you very well can be thrown out of school!. At state-owned colleges, the state owns the property, and you very well can be arrested!.
--Avoid loud or very large parties-- especially when the attendees are underaged!. Again, you don't want attention drawn to you!. Plus, people who weren't invited like to crash large parties!. If you don't know them, you also don't know that you can trust them to be responsible!.
--Be sure you don't overdo it-- for some reason, a friend of mine who was completely wasted decided that it would be a good idea to pour his bottles of grain alcohol down the toilet in front of a cop!. Your judgement is impaired when you drink!
--NEVER ask someone you don't know to buy you alcohol-- Undercover cops sometimes pose as people (or set up people) by liquor stores, specifically to arrest kids who are trying to get alcohol underage!. It is also important to be careful who you use to buy, even if you know them!. Additionally, remember to be RESPONSIBLE with what you are bought!. If you get trashed and kill someone or die or cause an accident, the buyer is going to be tossed in jail very quickly!. Know that it is a huge favor/risk to buy alcohol for someone who is underaged! And never tattle!.
--Avoid very competitive drinking games-- Sometimes kids get caught up playing games, or just competing to see who can drink more!. Funneling beer and taking shots too fast can lead to alcohol poisoning!. If you have to go to the hospital for alcohol poisoning, you can be SURE that law will be involved for you and everyone else involved!. Not to mention the risk of brain damage, coma, and death!.
--Avoid the Myspace/Facebook appeal!!-- If you are depicted all shiny and red-faced, downing a bottle of shnapps, or pantsless on the floor with a beer in your hand ONLINE (in PUBLIC), you are basically asking to get caught!. It shows maturity to be able to refrain from flaunting your weekend to the busybodies online!. Trust me!.
--Cooperate with the police if you are caught!-- Never argue, or talk back to the cops!. They are easily insulted and will surely use this against you!. If you are calm and do as they say, your penalty can be lessened or even dropped!.
Well, I hope that helped you some!.
Again, I'm not advocating!. I was just recently underage and know what it's like!.
Good luck and stay SAFE!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
