I've made homemade wine before but this is the first time I have made cherry wine and the first time I noticed a small amount of floating mold on top!. it still has months to go before it is done!. has it went bad!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

No!. Mold is common on wine musts!. It can be controlled by using sulfur based compounds for wine!. These are commonly available from any sulfur!.

Commercially a winery will use sulfur (sulfides) to control yeast and molds in their wines!. They also either "punchdown" the cap back down into the fermenting must or recirculate the wine over it (sort of like sparging in brewing)!. This keeps the must moist and coated with the sulfur!. For grape wines (red) the punchdown also helps extract color and tannins from the skin!.
If you have not used sulfur you may (ask your supplier) use it now!. also practice pushing-pucnhdown the must cap!. You may also want to carfully remove the mold laden cherries now!. Not peoblems for health but it may have a negative taste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It appears not only in wine but other drinks too!.It doesnt mean that your wine is spoilt but the taste usually get affected when mould appears!.Even the color get affected upto some extentWww@FoodAQ@Com
