I can help you on Scotch, but it'd help if you were more specific on what kind!.
For blends, I like Famous Grouse for the inexpensive end!. Johnnie Walker's line above Red ranges from good to fantastic (with prices to match)!. The problem with blends is that there's so much crap cluttering up the shelves, stuff that's made to mix!.
For single malts, I love Scotch from every region!. Speys are fantastic from Balvenie to Glenfarclas, Springbank, Ardbeg, Macallan, it's hard to narrow it down to a few favorites!.
My best advice is to buy miniatures and any sampler packs you can find in 100 or 200ml sizes!. That keeps the cost down and you don't feel very bad dumping half a bottle of crappy whisky if the bottle is only 5 bucks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
