I have had many real absinthes!. My favourites are
Roquette 1797
Century Absinthe (100mg thujone)
The effects are more pronounced with the higher thujone levels and can be described as a heightened sensivity to colour, sound, movement and peculiar non linear thought patterns!. This is the thujone and the alcohol pulling against each other!. Alcohol and thujone are opposites - as alcohol is a GABA agonist and thujone is an antagonist!.
The experience is very pleasant and relaxing!. However that is by drinking one or two glasses at a absinthe / water ratio of 1:5!. If you over indulge with real absinthe you might not be so relaxed ;-) and the green fairy can turn into a green monster!. The idea with absinthe is not to get drunk but to experience the herbs - many people do get drunk on absinthe though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I had real European Absinthe years ago and the new varieties in the USA!. The difference!? The new ones tasted cleaner!.
As for the "experience": it's alcohol!. The experience was identical to drinking any other alcohol!. We louched sugar cubes into it!. We used water!. We even tried a bit straight up and in the end we could have bought some nice Scotch at that price and enjoyed ourselves more!. At least the new stuff is cheaper!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
