It looks a bit expensive!. Depending on how authentic you like your absinthe, I know there is some available in many liquor stores around SF!. There are also little bottles at BevMo! (Beverages & More)!. I think I've seen a small bottle there for around $9!. If you ask someone there, they will also be able to give you further recommendations!.

Yes it's legal!.
Half the liquor stores I've been to in the last few months carry several brands!. Find a nice store in SF and I'd bet they have a bottle or five!.
It's somewhat pricey right now because only a few brands exist and they're not really competing on the same level as other liquors!. In the next few years it'll decrease in price because bargain brands will show up and the middle market will become more competitive!.
BTW: I've had absinthe (pre and post legality) and it's not that special!. Whatever wondrous effects you're expecting aren't going to happen and probably never did!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

The absinthe prohibition is finally over!. You are probably wondering whether absinthe is legal in the US and where I got this information from!. Well it is all over the news!.For over 95 years absinthe was a big no dice to the US, but starting in November 2007 game is back on!. There was a lot of fake “absinte” out there, but now you can buy real czech absinthe!.
The reason it was illegal was because of the craze that happened around it in the 19th century!. Artists said it gave them creative power!. Others claimed it made them hallucinate!. Before you know it France is drinking more absinthe than wine!. In the 1920s all alcohol was banned in the US, and unfortunately Absinthe remained so till recently!.
In fact, EU has made absinthe legal as well so now you can chip it across borders without worry!. You can read more about the history of absinthe!.
