Why do glass bottles have notches in the bottom?!

Filling machines can hold them better that way!. The cogs, etc hold them still better!.
As a side-effect, they're also maybe more stable, and a little easier for you to grab hold of them sometimes (don't ask how I know, I just do!.!.!.I've been in that position)!.

There are actually 2 reasons!. The first is just like others have said; bottling machines!. BUT the real reason, and more important, is this:
If you spill the liquid, the notches help prevent the liquid from creating a seal and slipping all over the place (think of hydroplaning and the tread on your tires)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
