Stella Artois beer advert - ingredients in 1366?!

Question: Stella Artois beer advert - ingredients in 1366!?
In their latest ad the brewers say their beer has been made from the same ingredients since 1366 - hops, water, maize and malted barley!. But didn't maize come to Europe from the american colonies a long time after that!? Or were people growing a similar type of maize crop in Europe before then!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Don't believe the crap they put out in TV advertisements!. Stella Artois has been brewed since 1926!. They've been brewing beers in Leuven since 1366, but they weren't Stella - they wouldn't have even been lagers!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In 1363 the BPO (Barvarian Puriety Order) mandated the only 3 ingredients in beer were to be Water, Hops, and Malted Barley!. I don't know about the Maize but atleast I answered half your question, maybe!.!.!. hope it helpsWww@FoodAQ@Com

I think they are trying to be clever!. Stella has only been around for 100 years, They are being a bit cheeky!. I doubt they can prove what went into the beer in 1366!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
