What's the best type of scotch?!
And what is single malt, vatted malt (also called "pure malt"), blended and single grain!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Single malt: the mash is 100 percent malted barley, and all the whisky in the bottle was distilled and aged in the same distillery!.
Vatted malt/pure malt: mash is 100 percent malted barley, but it can be mixed from whisky from different distilleries!.
Single grain: mash is not 100 percent malted barley, but a mix of different grains (that may or may not contain barley)!. All the whisky is from a single distillery!.
Blended scotch: more than one type of grain, more than one distillery's produce!. Considered 'smoother' than malts or single grain!.
ALL Scotch, regardless of type, is aged in oak casks for at least three years and a day, and can have no additives besides a bit of caramel spirit for coloring!.
The most popular single malts are Glenlivet, Macallan, and Glenfiddich, although Ardbeg scores well when rated by professional connoisseurs (for whatever that's worth)!.
Johnnie Walker is by far the most popular of the blends, with the various Chivas bottlings a distant second!.
Note that the terms "Pure malt" and "single grain" are rarely used, as they are far less popular, and the designations are often confusing to consumers!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I prefer Chivas Regal 18 year scotch, but it's a bit expensive!. Glenlivet 12 year scotch is pretty good!. I generally prefer the single malt, single barrel scotches!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
