Hi Jon D, Years ago wine and beer were often stored in barrels which usually lay on their sides, the Keg stand was a wooden rig that stopped them rolling and made them able to stack!. If you think of thick pieces of wood with semi circles cut out of the middle where the barrel could lay you may get some idea of what I am trying to describe!. I hope this helps, all the best!. I saw a guy do a keg stand and without any help one of his hands slipped and he broke his nose on the keg, looked like he broke his neck!.
