Answers:
They are all different wine grapes!. Merlot is a my idea of a "lighter" red wine, good with pasta, perhaps!. It's not really one of my favorite reds, but it is very popular right now!. Shiraz is lush and heavy, best w/ red meats, (beef, lamb)!. Zinfandel is also a heavier, dry red wine that has a bit of a "zing" to it, great with lamb! White zinfandel is sweeter, more of a rose type wine!. Personally, I avoid it like the plague, but often new wine drinkers gravitate to the sweeter wines first and progress to the drier wines as they become more knowledgeable!. Cabernet Sauvignon is a medium to full bodied red, again good with heavier red meats!. Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine, dry and delicious, good with poultry and seafood!. Might be a little heavy with fish, depending on the recipe!.

The best thing to do is buy them and taste them and decide for yourself which ones you like best! Good wines don't have to be expensive!. For everyday drinking (and price/taste ratio) we like Australian and New Zealand wines!. South American (Chilean) wines can be good but I'm nervous about what the grapes might have been sprayed with!. CA wines are usually reliable if you avoid the really cheap jugs!.

Have fun tasting and learning--just don't drive afterwards!Www@FoodAQ@Com
