Rum is distilled from fermented cane sugar!. It can be bottle plain, spiced, aged, or spiced and aged!.

Whisky, Gin, and Vodka are all distilled spirits made from grain alcohol (though some vodka distilleries use fruit or potatoes, grain is the traditional source!. There are records of vodka being made in Europe long before the potato was even introduced from America)!.

Vodka is normally plain alcohol and water that retains very few flavor characteristics!. It is sometimes lightly flavored!.

Gin is flavored with juniper berries, and sometimes a few other herbal extracts!.

Whisky is grain spirits that have been aged in wood barrels!. If it's made in Scotland, it's scotch whisky; if it's made in Ireland, it's Irish whiskey; if it's made in Canada, it's Canadian whiskey, if it's made in Japan it's Japanese whisky, and there are number of types of American whisky:

For every American whisky type other than corn whisky, it must be aged at least 2 years in casks made of American white oak that have been charred on the inside and never used before, bottle at at least 80 proof, and nothing else may be added!. Corn whisky can only be aged in UNcharred american white oak casks!.

Other whisky types can be aged in any type of barrel, and often use second-hand american whisky barrels!.

You seem to have many of the same answers!. I do know a lot about rum!. Most rum is made from fermented sugar cane, but there is also a difference in rums!. Many rums use Molasses and thus destroy the true taste of rum!. Bacardi is one such rum!. I do believe they all use some sort of Molasses, but the ones with the lower content make it better!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i agree with everyone with basic constituents of different spirits!. however, as this question is posted on yahoo india site i'll list how indian spirits are made!. here goes

first sugar is caramelized(burned)!.this is used to color the booze
then you take alcohol(colorless) that is distilled from molasses(sugarcane slurry)!.
if you add a liitle caramel to alcohol!.!.!.!.you get whiskey
add a little more !.!.!.!.you have rum
leave caramel out!.!.!.!.you've got vodka
add essence of juniper to vodka!.!.gin's ready
and so on
no maturing(of any significance)
add a very small amount of real whiskey and call it blended whiskey
(blending 99% **** with !% good stuff)
