I need some opinions about wine?!
I just bought a pretty good priced bottle of wine, I have never been much of a wine drinker and I was wondering for storage purpose, would it be better in a fridge or at room temperature!? the place i bought it from had it in a enclosed cool roomWww@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Wine has been stored for centuries on it's side to keep the cork from drying out, and at a constant cool temperature (or as constant as possible)!. Undisturbed Reds can rest like that almost indefinitely, and improve with age!.
Whites on the other hand are better drunk fairly young - within 5 years, but better after 2 years, although you can have exceptions to those rules!.
Chardonnay is best served refrigerated or very cool, as does German wines, but the more rounded the flavour, the warmer the temperature!.
Reds should be brought out in the morning, and allowed to warm up to room temperature by the evening!. If sediment is present, it may be decanted into another decanter before serving!.
Most wines these-days are opting for plastic corks to ensure consistency - but smelling a plastic cork doesn't have much appeal!. Neither does the screw cap!.
Both of these are probably better stored upright - as I have known metal screw caps to leak if on their side!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Is the wine red or white!?
A white can be stored in the refrigerator for many months!. You and a friend will drink a typical bottle in a single evening, so it won't be there for that long once you open it, even if you drink alone and little at a time!.
A red will suffer from being cold!. It prefers cool, like a basement!. If you haven't got one, a dark closet or cupboard will do well enough!. Keep it out of direct light!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Storing--make sure it is tilted so the cork stays wet, ensuring wine stays good!. If you allow the cork to dry out, you may get a less than perfect bottle of wine!. Store in a cool area away from direct sunlight, but for serving---serve red at room temp and white cool/cold!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I always find it in a store where they keep them out in the open!. I believe that most wine would be kept out in romm temperature like most people do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Any reasonable temp will work but having it constant is the most important!. Try a dark corner of a closet where it won't get disturbed too often!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
