Bartender Service?? Any help would be great!?!

Question: Bartender Service!?!? Any help would be great!!?
I was wondering if anyone knows what the average rate to charge for a bar tending service would be for about 4-5 hours!.

To get into more details:

I am a licensed bartender and want to start doing side jobs!. I live in California if that makes a difference =]

Recently a some-what family member is throwing a Quince (or Sweet 16) in May '09 and asked me to provide my service!. The party would be about 4-5 hours long so dont know what to charge!. Approximately there would be around 100 people but not all of them would drink!.

Basically, do you charge per hour or per drinks a person!?
Should I provide the liquor and charge more!?
Open-Bar or Drink per person!?

I also had an idea of already having drink made on the side!. Kinda like having them in like an "buffet of drinks" but also make them to order!.
Is that a good idea or no!?

Any info would be great!
Thanks Alot!

Answers:
Well!. If they supply the liquor then!.!. You could ask for min wage for 4-5 hrs!. plus ask for at least $100!.00 for your tip!. Are you willing to do it for that amount!? If not then, ask yourself what amount would make it worth your time & energy!
Negative on the buffet drinks! Make them to order it looks more professional!. You don't want watered down drinks!

Good luck!

Don't sell yourself short!

Bartenders usually go for anywhere from $75 to $125 an hour for hosted bar service!. On top of that, your would need to keep a running total of exactly how many drinks you sold and of what liquor you sold!. This is important because once you price this out (multiply the drinks you sold by how much you would charge for them if it wasn't an open bar), you can then take a percentage of that as your gratuity!. So let's say that you worked for 5 hours and sold $1000 worth of booze (at price, not cost), this is how it would look:

5 hrs x $50 (they're family, we'll cut them a break) = $250
$1000 x 17!.25% gratuity (example, most use 20%) = $172!.50
Grand Total to be paid = $422!.50 (plus you get to keep cash tips during the event as well)

One last thing!. Make sure you make it known that you cost exta for overtime!. Let's say the event is in full swing by the time your ready to close up shop and they ask you to stay for another hour!.!.!.you cost at least 1!.5 times your hourly rate for that!

Let them buy the booze too if you can!.!.!.it's not worth it for you to have all those partial bottles of liquor lying around if they're willing to foot the bill!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Does the facility have a liquor licence!?

To make things simple:

If you provide the booze, charge per drink, and a nominal fee for your services!. $200 bartender fee, with a $500 deposit on alcohol (refundable if minimum sales are met) think about it!.!.!.you need to ensure a profit margin!. If you spend 750 on booze, you need to make that back!. If the guests spend over $500 bucks!.!.!.you give the hosts their deposit back!.!.!.you're guaranteed money this way!.
If you provide booze as part of an "open bar" negotiate with the hosts on what they want to serve, buy the booze in bulk, and charge 8 to 10% more than what you paid!. You are allowed to ask for tips!.

If they provide the booze, depending on what type of service they expect:
pulling beers and pouring wine: 30 dollars an hour plus tips, with no bar back
full bar: 50 bucks an hour for tender, 10 bucks for bar back, plus tips
