#1 - Lick the back of your hand and sprinkle salt onto the spot!.
#2 - Cut you a slice of lime and pour up a shot!.
#3 - Lick the salt form your hand, take the shot, and bite down & suck on the lime!.

The best tequila to do shots or sip on is your high quality tequila!. The first key to look for is if it's 100% made from Aguave!. Almost all the cheap tequilas are only partially Aguave with other things substituted with it!. If it doesn't say somewhere on the bottle, then it's not 100% Aguave!. If you are going to mix it with mixes, juices, etc!. then I'd go mid-grade brands (Jose Silver or 1800)!. Once you get a taste for the high end stuff, you'll never touch the cheap stuff again!. Very high quality tequila can certainly be enjoyed "neat" (straight, no ice, no mix)!. I like to mix it wth orange juice and a healthy splash of cranberry juice!. This link also provides tons of other ideas!.!.!.
