There is understandable confusion for those that know the true craft brewing history over Anchor and New Albion!. It may just come down to size and beginning of the styles trend-history!. Anchor Brewing dates back to the 1800's and was a brewery of considerable size at one time during its history!. Once purchased by Fritz Maytag the brewery began brewing classic styles (of American-USA origin)!.
New Albion was a small brewery that has a grass roots history!. Jack McClauiff (forgot his actual spelling) was the man behind the brewery!. His brewer Don Barkley on to found the famed Mendocino brewery!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think the Anchor Steam company was the revolutionary!. Fritz Maytag bought the company and coined the Microbrewery kick!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

one could argue that Anchor Steam in the late 60s was the first in the revival of American Brewing even though the rest would not follow for another 10 to 15 yearsWww@FoodAQ@Com
