Can anyone get me a recipe for elderberry beer/ale?!
Answers:
If you've been home brewing for a while, maybe it's time to give your own recipe a shot!. Here's some recipes to compare to!.
here's a recipe for an "unhopped" Elderberry Ale
http://www!.countybeermakers!.org!.uk/recip!.!.!.
Here's a "black elderberry ale" recipe
http://www!.elderberries!.com/2007/12/10/h!.!.!.
And there are many other recipes at http://www!.beerrecipes!.org !. They don't have any for elderberry ale, but you could base your beer off of a raspberry or perhaps a cranberry beer!.
For a pretty "run of the mill" elderberry beer, I would be tempted to try something along the lines of:
5 pounds, pale malt extract syrup
1/2 to 1 lb crystal malt steeped
1 pound, corn sugar
2 ounces, Hallertauer hops (boil 60 mins)
1/2 ounce, Hallertauer hops (finish)
1 to 1 1/2 pounds, elderberries
ale yeast
corn sugar (priming)
It might make for an interesting beer!. As I haven't made it, I can't tell you how it would work out!. Elderberries supposedly have a higher tannin content, so you wouldn't want to put in too much!. Be careful not to steep the crystal at too high a temperature so you don't get the extra tannis extracted from the grain husks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
