Try Little Penguin, an Australian wine, if memory serves me right is under $10!. Its a mellow wine, nothing jumps out to you, but hints of vanilla!. also check out their Shiraz, which also relatively inexpensive!.
Another is FishEye, a California Merlot!. Fruitier than Little Penguin, but not overbearing!. I found it at local wine store for under $7
Ecco Domani Merlot is pretty good, and retails about $13!. Tangier, with subtle spice taste, its still fruity though!. I love this with pasta and pizza!
