Well the Knights in Cyprus (just after the Crusades) made a red wine called Comanderia!. Travellers at the time wrote " it is a heinious wine that must be drunk twelve parts of water!" that is like a cordial!. I know that the Eastern Europeans and the Spanish do use red wine like a cordial!. I agree that the fizz in carbonated drinks does add zing to the drink so anything not overpowering is excellent!. If you are adding Ginger beer or the like just do not bother to add the red wine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I live in Spain and the most popular drink in summer is a "tinto verano"!. That translates to summer wine!. To a glass add some ice, then two thirds of the glass put in some red wine and top up with a very light lemonade or 7up!. Add a slice of lemon and you have a great drink!.
