Big tobacco vs. liquor?!

Question: Big tobacco vs!. liquor!?
I'm not picking a side on this, but given that people can sue tobacco companies, years after it's been known to be addictive and deadly, can people sue liquor-producing companies if they drive drunk and die or die of cirrhosis of the liver!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense does it!? I will try not to take a side on this either!. I am a smoker!. and also a drinker on the weekends!. I am well aware of the fact that both of these have the potential of killing me, or injuring someone else(I never ever ever drive after drinking, just to set the record straight) I have to pay extra for cigarettes because of the taxes and lawsuits and blah blah blah!. But I can drink fairly cheap!. I can smoke and drive only injuring myself, but if I were to be a dumb*ss abd drink and drive, I run the chance of killing innocent people, not just myself!.!. It doesnt make much sense that we are persecuted for smoking, that it is now illegal to do in public in my state, yet getting hammered anytime I choose is fine!. Im not saying that beer should be taxed just like cigarrettes-but it's not fair for an innocent person to lose their life to a drunk driver with no compensation, while it was ok for people who are dumb enough to inhale toxic chemicals, to sue tobacco companies for their own stupidity!. Maybe Im ranting!.!.!.!.thanks for the opportunity!. You get a star!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The government labeled warning on alcoholic beverages as well as the surgeon general's warning on the packages of these items are one way of the companies to exempt themselves from the possibility of being sued!. People who engage in the use of these products are knowingly engaging in this activity and are aware of the possible repercussions!.

The reason why tobacco companies had suits was because it was shown that the companies knowingly misrepresented their product as safe or even healthy, when they knew in fact that it was linked to lung cancer!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have had this debate many times and thrown in obesity for good measure!. I think the reason why alcohol is socially acceptable and smoking is now not because people have good times with drinking!. I have never had a friend want to hang with me while i have a few cigs!. It smells and causes ugly diseases!. So does alcohol, but people remember good times and alcohol - esp in Aust!.

But your question!.!.!. cigs (not matter how many) will - apparently - give you all cancer, but only an excessive amount of alcohol can give you liver cancer!. The drink driving and violence is a social thing, its a human thing and cant be blamed on the alcohol - apparently!.

I dont think the people should be able to sue the company, its not their fault that some idiot drank that and then did something stupid!. Suing the person yes, not matter how drunk they were!.
also, smokers are usually loyal to a brand whereas drinkers usually change their type of drink!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because everyone would be pissed if the liquor companies started pulling their products because they don't want to deal with litigation!. There are A LOT of people who drink, it's only the minority of the populace that take it one step too far!.

Besides, how can you sue a company after you're dead!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

****NEWS FLASH****

LIFE CAUSES DEATH!.!.!.

100% of corpses surveyed admitted to being alive BEFORE they died!

Maybe we should sue God for letting us die after he gave us life!.!.!.or maybe we should just stop suing everybody for anything we can think of!. This is really getting out of hand!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Big tobacco companies = evil
liquor companies = our friends :) Www@FoodAQ@Com

If someone has not tried it yet they will soon!.

People have sued and won for for things that they did to themselves before!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
